Vivian Li is an emerging designer based in New York City who believes fashion and designers should be more conscious of the world they are creating in. Her work upcycles deadstock and discarded fabric through eco-conscious dye processes, embroidery, and beadwork. She embraces a multiplicity of perspectives, proposing an alternative way of interacting with garments via a hybrid of artistic and body focused approaches.
Vivian refined her creative process based on experimentation and innovation during her BFA Fashion Design studies at Parsons School of Design, exploring new forms of craftsmanship that transform the body and its visual impact. She is one of the recipients of the Swarovski x Parsons 2021/2022 Sponsorship for her thesis collection and has been featured in publications such as Wow Magazine. Through internships at the Adidas Creator Farm, New York design studio Claudia Li, and as assistant designer at Johnathan Hayden, she has expanded her industry knowledge and gained valuable insight. After graduation Vivian plans to further her career in Europe, working in couture-based and forward-thinking studios. Through a multi-disciplinary approach, Vivian emphasizes the intensive role of the maker and handiwork. When designing, she redefines and highlights our connections with garments and their impact, allowing fashion to be a conversation starter for complex social issues. |
